Day at the farm

By Dejan | Photography, Travel | Add comment

Well I haven’t been writting much since I was very busy with a take-home midterm we got, plus we had bunch of Navy guys come in for a review at work, so I had to spend a lot of time on that as well.  Now the things are quiet again.  I turned in the midterm today and took the day off, so decided to go to Issana’s work place. It’s a little farm in Bellevue next to Kelsey Creek Park.  It’s free admission and anyone can just walk in and take a look at the animals, most of which you can pet as well.  I did some picture taking there so check it out in my photos section or click here.

Tomorrow I’m off to a cheese festival and then I should be making some Bosnian pies.  I hope they come out good, it will be my first time making my own philo dough.  I should also continue my plasma posts tomorrow.

Winslow photos are up

By Dejan | Photography, Travel | Add comment

Winslow photos are finally up.  I’ve spent the last night editing the Winslow photos and working on Enertia’s practice photos. I’m getting close to finising it up.  Hopefully I can be done by the end of today, and then I can concentrate on EnLair photos.

Third day in Winslow

By Dejan | Travel | Add comment

Well things are wrapping up here.  I got up pretty early and spent part of the day in the morning on the airfield and rest of the day we were working out of our respective hotel rooms.  My part of work is basically done, so I’ll probably head out of Winslow tomorrow morning around 10.  I hope to be in Phoenix by 13:00, which will give me enough time to eat lunch and catch the flight.

Today I went to lunch to Turqouise Room, which is essentially the best restaurant in Winslow.  It’s inside the La Posada hotel.  The lunch there was GREAT.  I even got some desert, brownie with capuccino gelatto.  Other than that it was business as usual, basically NOTHING to do or see.

I did try and get some pictures late at night, but didn’t find any inspiration with anything.  Everything was too plain, there was no moon to be found and most places I wanted to get into had “No Trespassing” signs.  I did meet a couple from Minesota out here while taking photos and they were asking me about places to see and things to do, but unfortunately there is NOTHING.  As such I didn’t get many photos and nothing worth posting today.  I will try and post rest of the pics when I’m back in Seattle.

Second day in Winslow

By Dejan | Travel | Add comment

Today was a long day. Spent pretty much the whole day at the airfield working. It was cool to see a working helicopter up-close. I did manage to take a quick nap around 3pm. I took a lot more pictures as well. Mainly at the airfield. It’s a pretty cool one, apparently Lindbergh and Hughes were the founders. From what I can see it’s mostly used for refueling and what not since the air traffic was pretty much non-existent. I’ve seen no more than 5 airplanes land or take of from there all day.

One interesting thing is that the state penitentiary is right next door, about 3 miles away, and I got to see the real-life prisoner transport. They brought the guy in from the penitentiary, handed him off to the cop who handcuffed and shackled his legs and then took him up on a plane. I though this was very strange, since they did it in full view of all the people that were there.

One thing I learned today is that the water here is AWFUL, it tastes kind of like the watermelon skin. I immediately had to go and get some bottled water. I think people up in Seattle get spoiled with Mt. Rainer glacier water.

Here is another night shot I took at the airfield. They have a cool looking rotating light:

First day in Winslow

By Dejan | Travel | Add comment

The drive from Phoenix to Winslow was brutal.  It was a very boring 3 hours.  It was very hard to see any trees on the way and my car is covered with bugs.  The car I got is a Pontiac G6, which sucks.  Poor handling and it gets a little scarry at 80mph due to that, plus it’s a gas guzzler despite being so small.  One good thing is that it has XM, so I was listening to some good tunes, “Riders of the Storm” sounds sooooo weird while driving through the desert :) .  I also found my new favorite song on one of the country stations it’s “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk”.

So I left Phoenix around 11:00 and made my way to Flagstaff at around 13:00.  I had lunch at the Olive Garden there and I was in Winslow by 15:00.   I spent rest of the day catching up with the guys and looking over their setup.  At night we went to checkout the helicopter, it’s pretty sweet.  I got to play with all sorts of toys.  After that around 23:00 I went to take some photos of one of the famous sites in Winslow, here is a sample, but there will be more soon:
